Specialist Background

Dr Najwa Hanim Md Rosli was awarded her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) by the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) in 2005. She subsequently qualified as Doctor in Psychiatry (Dr. Psych) from University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 2012. In 2019, she completed her sub-specialty training in neuropsychiatry with the Neuropsychiatry Unit at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Dr Najwa is also professionally trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Marital and Family Therapy and Dialectic Behaviour Therapy (DBT) as treatment options for the mental health issues.

Prior to joining the Avisena family, she had been a lecturer in Psychiatry at IIUM since 2012 and became an Associate Professor at Universiti Teknologi MARA University (UiTM) in 2021.


With her subspecialty in neuropsychiatry, she sees clients with:

  • behavioral, emotional and cognitive disturbances related to neurological and psychiatric illness
  • younger-onset dementias with psychiatric and behavioural changes
  • psychiatric illness associated with brain insults (such as traumatic brain injury)
  • neurological and medical illnesses causing psychiatric symptoms such as epilepsy, and hyper/hypothyroid
  • functional neurological disorder

She also manages general psychiatric conditions such as:

  • anxiety disorder
  • mood disorder
  • psychotic disorder
  • obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • trauma related disorder such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • somatic symptom disorder such as somatisation disorder, illness anxiety disorder
  • substance related disorder
  • psychiatric disorder secondary to medical/surgical condition/postpartum
  • paraphilic disorder
  • sexual disorder especially in women such as vaginismus
