Specialist Background

She is a graduate from University of Malaya and received her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 2002. Then, she pursued her specialist training in the Department of Ophthalmology in Hospital Selayang and Hospital Kuala Lumpur. She received her Masters in Ophthalmology from University Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2012 and completed her fellowship in Paediatric Ophthalmology and received CFFT Malaysia in 2017.

Dr Akmal has a total of 10 years’ experience in managing Ophthalmology cases. Currently, she works as a Consultant Paediatric Ophthalmologist in Hospital Kuala Lumpur. She evaluates and manages a wide variety of ocular pathology and strabismus in Paediatric cases.

She actively involved in eye screening for paediatric patients with systemic and congenital anomaly. Her special interest is in paediatric cataract, glaucoma, retinopathy of prematurity and paediatric ocular trauma. She also actively involved with treatment of kids with refractive error, amblyopia, lazy eyes and allergic eye disease.
